Coaches Vs. Cancer a Huge Success Thank you to all of you who supported last Friday night's Coaches vs. Cancer event. We had a nice contingent of faculty and staff at the games. Both games were highly competitive and entertaining, and the Optimist Youth basketball games during the halftimes made the evening extra special. Over five hundred dollars was raised to fight cancer, and that is the most special part of the evening.
This week basketball continues with away games at Los Medanos on Wednesday and at Solano on Friday. Both the men and the women play at the same venues. The women's games will begin at 5:30 on both nights. The men will follow at 7:30.

Napa Valley College Basketball Hosts Cancer Awareness Night The Napa Valley College men's and women's basketball teams will host Mendocino College in games this Friday night. The Bay Valley Conference contests will serve as the main event for Cancer Awareness Night. The California Community College Basketball Coaches Association has set a goal to raise $50,000.00 to donate to the American Cancer Society for research. Participating colleges from around the state are using one evening during their seasons to help raise the money to meet the goal. NVC's night will feature a donation container and a portion of the gate receipts will go toward the donation. Optimist Youth Basketball will provide halftime entertainment during both the men's and women's contests. The women's game begins at 5:30 and the men's game will follow at 7:30. The goal is to pack the gym to support our teams, and we know that our fans will want to donate to the cause. We invite you to join us. It will be an entertaining evening.
Tonight the men's and women's basketball teams travel to Merritt College for Bay Valley contests. The women tip off at 5:30 and the men follow at 7:30.
Men's golf, softball, and baseball have all started practice and are preparing for their opening events. Play will begin for all three programs during the first week of February.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing a lot of people on Friday night!

Thank You and Happy Holidays! This time of year always causes me to reflect on the things for which I am thankful, and many people have helped to make this a very productive year for our division. The students (young and a little older alike), the student-athletes, our division faculty, classified staff, adjunct faculty, head coaches and assistant coaches, part time hourly staff, student workers, and volunteers have all participated in our mission and projects with a positive, can do attitude that continues to remind me of the importance of dedication, commitment, perseverance, and teamwork and what those values create.
Those values are also illuminated through the effort of so many people on campus and in the community who are dedicated to making good things happen. Literally, every group on this campus has contributed to whatever success that our division fosters in the classroom and on the field or court. And, countless community members and businesses willingly provide their personal and financial support. The classified staff, the faculty, the administration, and the Board of Trustees, along with the community have contributed to making those positive things happen. The Foundation and the Office of Community Relations have pitched in with effort and expertise that have made visions into a reality. As I write this, visions of the grounds crew working to make our fields playable, counselors helping our athletes find classes, faculty members and administrators and classified staff and Foundation members and members of the Board of Trustees participating in and helping out with our events, folks throughout every office on campus, and individuals from so many areas of the community pitching in to do the small things and the big things that make good things possible... all of this runs through my mind. (I know that the last sentence was a William Faulkner like effort, but hopefully you receive the sentiment).
In times that have presented challenges to all of us, it is uplifting for me to remember what all of you have done this year to still make the light shine in our division and throughout our campus. Thank you for what you do, and may you and your families have a truly joyous holiday season!

The Skyline Classic comes up this weekend for the Storm. Come on out and watch some great competition tonight!
The NVC women's basketball team has played a very tough pre-season schedule and will continue to play tough teams in this weekend's Rose City Tournament in Pasadena. The ladies will end their pre-conference season on December 17th at Shasta College.
Both the men and the women's teams open up BVC play on January 4th against Solano here in Napa.

Women's Volleyball Faces Feather River in Nor Cal Play-offs The Napa Valley College women's volleyball team is on the road tonight to face Feather River College in the Northern California Community College Regional Play-offs. The Storm women are seeded 11th in the tournament, and Feather River is the 6th seed. The match should be very competitive, and the winner will take on the either American River or Taft in the second round. Tonight's match starts at 6 p.m. in Quincy.
On Saturday both the men's and women's soccer teams were defeated in their Nor Cal Regional games. The men finished a fabulous season with a 5-0 loss to City College of San Francisco. The women lost a tight match, 2-0, at Modesto. Congratulations go out to both teams for their outstanding efforts this fall.
Wednesday, November 16th, 2011
The Napa Valley College women's volleyball team ended the regular season with a 3 game sweep over Laney last night and will find out their playoff destination this weekend. The ladies were undefeated for the second straight year in the Bay Valley Conference. They join the women's soccer team and men's soccer team with undefeated records in the conference this year.
The women's soccer team will travel to Modesto Saturday to play an 11 a.m. match. The Storm ladies are ranked 12th in Northern California and Modesto has the 5th seed. The men's soccer team will travel to City College of San Francisco to play a 2 p.m. match on Saturday. CCSF is ranked 3rd in the region and The Storm men are ranked 14th. The women's volleyball team will most likely travel in their first play-off match on Tuesday.
The women's basketball team will play two games this week in the Storm Gym. This Friday at 5:30 the ladies take on Hartnell. Butte will visit at 5:30 on Saturday. The men's basketball team will not play again until November 30th.
Tuesday, November 15th, 2011
Sophomore Night for Women's Volleyball The Napa Valley Women's Volleyball team will play its final regular season home game tonight against Laney College in the Storm Gym. Game time is 6 p.m. The team is looking to put the finishing touches on a perfect Bay Valley Conference season. Five sophomores will play their last home match at Napa. These ladies have been part of two Bay Valley Conference championship teams and will lead NVC into the playoffs next week. Hillary Domecus, Kaylie Martin, Missy Particelli, Nicole Rambo, and Lauren Secchitano will be honored before the match tonight. They have been fabulous in their Storm careers.
The men's and women's soccer teams will learn their playoff destinations later tonight. The seeding meeting for the Northern California Regional playoffs will be held today. It looks like the women will play at Modesto Saturday and the men will travel to City College of San Francisco. We will confirm that information or revise it in a communication tomorrow.
Wednesday, November 9th, 2011
The Napa Valley women's volleyball team defeated College of Alameda in 3 games last night. The win assured the ladies of another Bay Valley Conference title. Napa Valley is now 13-0 in conference play with two games remaining. Congratulations to a team that has shown consistent excellence this year. The Storm will play in the Northern California Regional Playoffs beginning November 22nd. Time, place, and opponent are yet to be determined.
The Storm women's soccer team tied Solano, 0-0, last night and finished up an undefeated Bay Valley Conference season. Solano will win the championship on overall points. A team receives 3 points for a win and 1 point for a tie. Solano has more wins in conference than the Storm as NVC tied more contests. Both teams are undefeated. NVC is ranked 13th in Northern California, and if that ranking holds up through this week it is likely that the Storm will compete in the Northern California Regionals. Stay tuned.
The Storm men's soccer team defeated College of Marin, 4-0, yesterday and is undefeated in conference play with one game remaining. NVC clinched the Bay Valley Conference championship last week and will open up Northern California Regional play on November 19th. The opponent and venue for the opening round game is yet to be determined.

NVC Programs Undefeated in BVC With One Week Remaining
Basketball season opens up for Napa Valley College this week as the Storm women take on Las Positas at 5:30 in the Storm Gym on Wednesday. The men travel to San Francisco City College this weekend to participate in the CCSF Tip Off Tournament. And, women's volleyball, women's soccer, and men's soccer head into the final week of the BVC season undefeated in conference play.
The Storm volleyball women beat Solano at Solano Friday night to assure themselves of at least a tie for the BVC title. The ladies can clinch their fifth straight conference championship with a win against College of Alameda on Tuesday night. The match begins at 6 p.m. in the Storm Gym. The ladies travel to Los Medanos on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match and finish the conference season against Laney in the Storm Gym on November 15th.
The Storm soccer women play Solano in a very important match on the Storm Soccer Field at 3 p.m. tomorrow. The team's tied, 0-0, in their previous match up. Solano leads the conference because the Falcons have more wins than the Storm (the Storm ladies have more ties). A win may not give NVC a conference title because of the soccer point system (wins count for 3 points, ties count for 1 point), but it would give the team a legitimate shot at a playoff spot. The ladies travel to Feather River for a non-conference match on Friday.
The Storm soccer men wrapped up the conference championship last Tuesday against Yuba College. They followed that up with a 1-0 win on Friday against Contra Costa College. Tomorrow NVC travels to Marin for a 3:00 p.m. match and ends up the conference season at home on Thursday at 3 against Merritt College. The Storm will find out who and where their first playoff opponent is next week.
Congratulations to the players and coaches on each team. They have done a remarkable job, and more is still to come.

Undefeated Volleyball and Soccer Teams Face Important BVC Tests Napa Valley College women's volleyball, women's soccer, and men's soccer teams head into November undefeated in Bay Valley Conference play. The outcome of this week's competition will be an important factor in determining each team's play-off chances. The women's soccer team is currently ranked 12th in Northern California, but is behind Solano in the race for the BVC title. The Storm plays a 3:30 match today on the Storm soccer field against Los Medanos College. They travel to Contra Costa on Friday for another 3:30 match. The men's soccer team is undefeated in BVC play, also. The team is in first place and wins this week will assure the Storm of a championship and a play-off berth. NVC travels to Yuba College today for a 6:30 p.m. match and will face Contra Costa on Storm Field this Friday at 4 p.m. The Storm women's volleyball team is also undefeated in the conference and faces stern tests from Yuba College on Wednesday at Yuba and Solano College Friday at Solano. Both matches begin at 6 p.m.

Tomorrow night the ladies play Contra Costa at 6, and Friday night they face Marin at 6. Both matches are in the Storm gym. The Storm play key matches from here on out as they are in the driver's seat to take another BVC title, and all wins are important for playoff seeding.
The Storm women's soccer team plays Mendocino on the Storm soccer field today at 3:30. On Friday they travel to Marin for a 3:30 match. The ladies are still undefeated in BVC play. Wins are crucial for playoff hopes.

It truly takes a team to make things really happen!

The fall athletic season is off to an excellent start. The women's volleyball team is undefeated after wins over College of the Siskiyous and San Jose City College in the Solano Classic. The women's soccer team is 2-3-1 against superb pre-conference competition, and the men's soccer team is 0-1-4 against excellent competition. The last number in the record stands for ties and that is important in the soccer power rating system, because it gives our teams positive points. The men look to break the tie streak today on Storm Field when they take on Mission College at 4:30. The women's volleyball team travels to Sierra College today to play in the Sierra Classic.
Friday, September 16th, 2011

The men played well but fell to Feather River on Tuesday, 3-0. On Friday NVC tied Mission College 2-2. Today the Storm men and women host foes in a double header that will begin at 2:30. One item that was not included in this morning's athletic information was Friday's men's soccer match against Mission. It is on, and it will begin on the Storm soccer field at 4:30. Have a good week!
Wednesday, September 7th, 2011
Volleyball Starts Strong Men's and Women's Soccer Today The Napa Valley women's volleyball team started the official season strong yesterday with wins over Gavilan College and Shasta College. Fall Sport Seasons in Motion The inaugural home game for the women's soccer program will take place on Wednesday, September 7th at 4:00 p.m. A ceremony to commemorate the historic game will take place before the game. This match will be the second half of a double header that features the men's soccer team against Feather River at 2:00 p.m. and follows with the women's game against Feather River's women at 4. Napa Valley head women's soccer coach, Brad Williams, will match wits with his father, who is the head coach for both men's and women's teams for Feather River.
We invite you to come out for both matches and watch some very good soccer!
The Napa Valley men's soccer team opened up the season last Friday against Delta College. The Storm led the match 3 to 2 going into the last few minutes of play. Delta picked up a late goal, and the match ended in a tie. NVC played very well against a good program from the Big 8 Conference and looks to build on that as the team plays Ohlone College today at Ohlone.
The women's soccer program played its first game ever this week. The opponent was Santa Rosa. The ladies lost to last year's state runner up, 6-0. The game was played against one of the state's best teams and was a great learning experience for the young Storm program. The Storm will play Delta College in Stockton tomorrow.
Women's volleyball is also on the road this week. The Storm is involved in scrimmages at Foothill and Columbia this week. Next Tuesday the team hosts the Napa Classic in the NVC gym. The Napa Valley College Athletic Hall of Fame nomination deadline has been extended to June 1st. We have received some nominations and a number of people are calling and asking about nominating someone. Since this is the first year and we want to make sure that the public is aware of what we are doing and is fully aware of how to nominate, our committee felt that an extension was prudent. For those who desire to nominate, please go to HERE; send the nomination information and a check for $20.00 that is made out to the Napa Valley College Foundation to Kevin Luckey at Napa Valley College. We are looking forward to a fabulous event. Mark your calendars
Monday, April 25, 2011
Softball games scheduled with Marin today have been moved to Wednesday at 2 and 4. These games will take place. We know that the weather will be perfect.
Wednesday, April 20, 2011
If you haven’t been out to watch a softball or baseball game at NVC this spring, you have a few more opportunities. The softball team will play a double header against Marin at home beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday. They will play Contra Costa at Contra Costa in a double header on Tuesday. The baseball team will play Laney here tomorrow at 2 p.m. and will play Marin here on Tuesday, also at 2 p.m. The team will finish out the season at Yuba College on Thursday. Both the softball and baseball teams are playing some excellent ball right now. So, come on out and watch.
Monday, April 11, 2011
The softball and baseball schedules are almost back to normal, but there are a few changes this week due to switches that were made over the rainy period. The baseball team will be at home tomorrow against Laney instead of on the road. Game time is 2 p.m. The softball team will play a double header against Los Medanos here tomorrow. The first game begins at 1 p.m. On Thursday the baseball team plays Contra Costa here at 2 and the softball team hosts a twin bill against Yuba College in a double header that was originally scheduled at Yuba. On Saturday the baseball team travels to Los Medanos. The golf team hosts a Big 8 tournament on Thursday at Eagle Vines.
Tuesday, April 5th, 2011
Napa Valley’s softball and baseball teams played a lot of ball last week, and gained some ground on postponed games. This week will get both teams close to normal in the conference season. Softball is coming off of a 4 win 2 loss week and will play Marin College at Marin today in a double header. Solano will visit for a double header on Thursday. On Friday NVC will travel to Mendocino for a double header. Starts for all double headers will be at 1 p.m. The baseball team will play all games at home this week. Yuba visits Storm Field at 2 p.m. today. On Thursday Marin will arrive for the finish of a previously scheduled contest, and that will be followed by a regularly scheduled game. Play on Thursday begins at 1 p.m. Mendocino will be the opponent on Saturday.
The NVC golf team continues Big 8 tournament play at Delta today, and travels to Sierra on Thursday for another tournament match.
Thursday, March 24th, 2011
I am sure that you all will be surprised by this communication, but the weather has again altered our schedules for baseball and softball. Games scheduled for today are postponed. Saturday, if there is a break, baseball will travel to Laney for a 1 p.m. start. That game was originally scheduled to be here, but our field is unplayable. Laney has a field that drains very well, and if the weather breaks the game will be played. Softball will play a double header at Solano on Monday, a double header here against Yuba on Wednesday, and a double header here against Contra Costa on Thursday. The games against Yuba will begin early, 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The Solano and Contra Costa games are scheduled to begin at 1 and 3. That’s it for now. Stay tuned.
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011
Last weekend’s storms and impending bad weather have again played havoc with baseball and softball schedules. The baseball game scheduled to be played here against College of Marin today has been moved to College of Marin. It will begin at 1 p.m. The softball double header scheduled against Yuba College today has been postponed.
If the weather cooperates, it looks like April will be a busy month for both the baseball and softball teams at home. Yuba College is scheduled to play baseball here next Monday in a make-up of last Saturday’s scheduled game. If that game cannot be played, it will have to be pushed back to a later date. Softball has now had three double header match ups postponed (Marin, Solano, and Yuba). All of those will have to be rescheduled. Weather forecast for the rest of this week does not look promising. So, more juggling may have to take place. We will keep you posted on when events are going to take place.
Thursday, March 17th, 2011
Today is a beautiful day, and it is time to play some softball and baseball. Softball is on the road today at Los Medanos for a double header. The first game begins at 1 p.m. Baseball travels to Solano for a single game that begins at 2 p.m.
This weekend’s weather forecast does not look promising. Rain earlier in the week and the looming storms forecast for this weekend have forced us to cancel this weekend’s softball tournament. Baseball is scheduled to play here on Saturday against Yuba College. That game has not been postponed yet. It may be played as scheduled or the venue may be changed or the day and venue may be changed. All depends on the weather and the condition of the field. We will keep you posted.
The weather has played the most havoc on softball teams. Scheduled double headers against Marin and Solano were postponed within the last week and will have to be made up. Again, we will keep you posted on the dates and times of the make ups.
Thursday, March 10th, 2011
Sorry, folks. No softball today after all. Baseball is scheduled to play here Saturday at 1, weather permiting.
Thursday, March 10th, 2011
It is beginning to rain, but we are going to see if we can get a softball game or two in today. We will begin the first game against Marin on the Storm softball field at 12:30.
Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
The baseball game that was postponed yesterday against Mendocino will be played on Storm Field today at 2:30. Stay tuned for information concerning tomorrow’s scheduled softball double header against Marin.
Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
The baseball game scheduled against Mendocino on Storm Field this afternoon will be postponed until tomorrow. Playing conditions on Storm Field are questionable at this time. We will keep you posted on whether tomorrow’s game will be played here or at Mendocino.

Ten Napa Valley College Fall sport sophomore athletes earned academic all-conference status this year. The criterion for this honor is that an athlete must compile a grade point average of 3.0 or better from the time that he or she begins a sport until the end of the playing career. All athletes must be enrolled in at least 12 units during their season of sport and nine of those units must be focused on an academic goal. In order to compete a second season, an athlete must have completed 24 units and 18 of those must be focused on an academic goal. The ten NVC athletes have worked hard on and off the field. Most of them balance academics, athletics, and work. They are to be congratulated for this prestigious accomplishment. The athletic department also thanks the instructors and all of the support staff who have dedicated themselves to student success.
